Observations from the Yankees’ 5-0 spring training loss to the Blue Jays on Wednesday.
Double the fun
Brett Gardner didn’t look like a 37-year-old as he sprinted for a double in the seventh inning of the Yankees’ loss to the Blue Jays, one of his two hits on the day.
Shift happens
Aaron Hicks tried to bunt against the shift in the first inning, but it was well foul. He’d successfully laid down a bunt earlier this spring as teams try to limit the impact of the shift.
Caught my eye
Aaron Judge might have been able to make a leaping catch on Bo Bichette’s first-inning homer off Deivi Garci, which only reached the first few rows of the seats in right, but he stayed on the ground — a smart move for the outfielder who is trying to stay healthy.
Thursday’s schedule
Michael King is scheduled to start when the Yankees visit the Phillies at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, at 6:05 p.m.
